Getting started is simple: download the app, create an account, take your first walk outside, and tap to claim your first territory. The more you move, the more you can claim.

Territory Basics

How does the territory system work?

Territory is the foundation of MapRaiders. Every land tile on the map belongs to someone or is waiting to be claimed. Claimed territories show their owner's color and can be fortified with defenses. Unclaimed land decays over time, so you must periodically walk your territories to keep them active. When another player walks to your territory and challenges it, they enter a defense game — if they win, they take your land.

Larger territories have more defense slots, letting you stack multiple mini-games for deeper protection. Clan territories are shared and defended collectively by the group.

Echos: Social at Scale

What are Echos and how do I create them?

Echos are short digital messages pinned to real-world locations on the MapRaiders map. You can create text Echos, attach images, and mark them with custom hashtags. Other players discovering the same location will see your Echo, can comment, and can upvote it. The most popular Echos rise to prominence on the map, building a shared geography of community contributions.

Echos are entirely player-created — use them to share jokes, facts, warnings, stories, or anything that matters at that location. They're moderated by the community through reporting and voting.

Defense Strategy

How do defense mini-games protect my territory?

When you own territory, you can add defense mini-games to protect it. MapRaiders offers 7 different games including Rock Paper Scissors, Tic Tac Toe, Mini Chess, and more. Each game tests different skills — choose defenses that match your strengths or create mixed defenses to stay unpredictable.

When another player walks to your territory and challenges it, both of you compete in the assigned mini-game in real time. The winner determines land ownership. Larger territories earn more defense slots, letting you layer multiple games for serious protection.

Clans & Cooperation

How do clans work and how do I join one?

Clans form organically when players team up to control territory and collaborate on goals. Unlike rigid guilds, MapRaiders clans grow naturally from shared territorial interests. You can start your own clan or be invited to join an existing one. Clan members cooperate to defend larger regions and compete against rival clans in organized challenges.

Clan territories are defended collectively, and members share in the defense and XP rewards. Clans also access clan-exclusive challenges and leaderboards, creating internal competition and cooperation.

Quests & Content Creation

How do I create quests and earn rewards?

Quests are tasks you create for other players to discover and complete at specific locations. You set the location, define the challenge (a puzzle, trivia, or task), and set a reward in XP or in-game currency. When a player completes your quest, you both earn rewards and the quest gets credit toward your creator stats.

Challenges work similarly but operate at the clan level — clans create challenges to test members and earn clan-wide rewards. Both systems let you shape gameplay and reward other players for engaging with your content.
