How do you get cards in MapRaiders?
How to get cards is quickly told: you move, you play, and the cards follow. MapRaiders is a GPS game and a trading card game (TCG) in one world, so your collection grows in both places, outside and at the table.
The four ways stand side by side, and you do not have to use all of them. If you prefer walking, you collect outside. If you prefer the table, you collect in duels and missions. One way is already running in the internal test, the other three are planned.
Way 1: Find cards on the map and earn them for territory
Cards lie at real places on the map. You walk there, pick up the find, and it goes into your album. These card finds are running in the internal test today.
The second half of this way is planned for the beta: cards for territory you claim on foot. You walk, run or cycle a lap and close it. The enclosed area becomes your territory. If that ground belonged to nobody before, it is meant to earn you cards.
Way 2: Prove yourself in the card duel
In the arena, deck meets deck. A commander leads your fifty cards, five buildings stand on your side, and whoever has no standing building left loses the match. In the internal test you play against a bot. For the beta, matches against other players are planned.
Planned: if you prove yourself in a duel, you leave the table with new cards. In the beta, nobody loses anything in a duel, so nobody puts cards at risk.
Way 3: Weekly pass and season pass
Every calendar month is planned as one season. Each week brings weekly missions, and completed missions bring cards. That is the weekly pass: short, clear goals that fit into an ordinary week.
The season pass runs across the whole month. At its end waits the commander of the month. Everything on both passes is earned by playing.
Way 4: Trade-in missions for duplicate cards
If you collect, sooner or later you will hold the same card more often than your deck can use. Trade-in missions are planned for exactly that: you hand in duplicate cards to the game and receive other cards in return.
The exchange always runs between you and the game, never between players. Which cards a mission asks for, and what it gives back, is not final yet.
What cards are not
Cards in MapRaiders are game pieces and collectibles. You own them, sort them, show them and play them. That is all, and it is meant to be.
- The beta has no trading between players. A card stays with the player who earned it.
- A rarer picture never makes a stronger card. Foil and collector versions are planned to play exactly like the regular card.
Do you have to go outside to get cards?
No. The first way needs the map, but duels, the weekly pass, the season pass and trade-in missions are planned so that they also work at the table, on the sofa or on the train. And if you cannot go out, spawn points let you explore the map from home.
Do cards or decks ever expire?
No. Cards and decks never expire, and your territory stays yours until another player takes it from you. What is in your album stays in your album.
