Running Gamification App

Run your city.
Own your territory.

MapRaiders is the running gamification app that turns every mile into strategy. Your route becomes territory on a live community map — claimed by you, defended against challengers, shared with your running clan.

The Problem

Running alone is fine.
Running with stakes is better.

Running is the world's most democratic sport. No equipment, no membership, no schedule. And yet for most people it remains a solitary experience. Strava shows you who was faster. Nike Run Club sends motivational pings. But no app gives your run real consequences in the world.

The existing running app landscape splits into two weak halves: pure fitness trackers without social depth, and social networks that keep you glued to the couch. What's missing is the bridge — an app where your physical movement through real space creates playful and social reality.

Imagine this morning's run around the block meant you now own the main street in your neighbourhood. Another runner is trying to take it back tomorrow. That's MapRaiders.

The Solution

Running with real consequences

🏃

Route = Territory

Every running route you complete marks real GPS territories on the live map. The street you run every day belongs to you — until another runner challenges it.

🔊

Route Audio Echoes

Leave voice notes at landmarks along your route: motivational shouts at the steep hill, warnings about slippery surfaces, secret shortcuts only you know. Other runners hear you as they pass.

👥

Running Clans

Start or join a running clan. With friends, neighbours, or strangers who run the same routes. Together your combined territory is larger, your defence stronger, your community tighter.

🎯

Route Quests

Other players hide quests at specific GPS points. You discover them while running — a worthwhile detour, a challenge that pushes you further than you planned. Discovery as motivation.

How it works

3 steps to your running adventure

1

Start the app — run begins

Launch MapRaiders before your run, confirm your start point, and go. The app records GPS data in the background — you look straight ahead, not at the phone.

2

Your run claims territory

Every stretch you run appears on the map as your territory. Streets, parks, forest trails — everything you run belongs to you. Other runners see it in real time and can challenge your claim.

3

Community interaction after the run

After your run: check your new map, listen to echoes left by other runners on your route, respond to clan challenges, and plan tomorrow's route with strategic intent.

Who it's for

For every runner who wants
more than a finish line

For the occasional jogger who goes out twice a week and needs more motivation. The territory system gives every run a purpose — today you're not running for the sake of it, you're running because your turf needs defending.

For the dedicated daily runner who already trains every day and wants a playful dimension. Explore new routes to claim new territories, compete in clan rivalries with other running groups in your city, experience community through shared audio echoes on favourite paths.

For running clubs and groups looking for an app that enhances both shared running and the social connections between members. Clans are the digital infrastructure for existing running teams.

FAQ

Common questions from runners

How is MapRaiders different from Strava as a running gamification app?
Strava tracks your performance and shows it to others — passively. MapRaiders makes running actively strategic: your route becomes territory, you compete with other runners for neighbourhoods, form clans, and communicate via audio echoes on the route. Running with real consequences.
Does MapRaiders track my running performance?
MapRaiders captures GPS data and distance. The focus is on the strategic consequence of your movement — which territories you secure, which areas others hold, how strong your clan is. Classic performance metrics are secondary.
Does MapRaiders actually motivate more running?
Beta testers report more running days per month on average. The combination of territory competition, community, and the daily decay system creates strong intrinsic motivation to get out consistently.
Can I run with friends to claim territory together?
Yes. The clan system is built for exactly that. Form a running clan with friends, divide routes strategically, protect your collective territory together. Clans can also organise group runs and shared quests.
What happens to my territory if I stop running for a while?
Territories decay over time: if you don't visit your areas regularly, they weaken and other runners can take them. This is intentional design — it's one of the strongest motivators to keep running consistently.

Your route.
Your territory.

From the Founder
I built MapRaiders because GPS games either force your wallet or leave you alone. Here every step shapes real territory — and every map becomes the social network of your city.

Dropping Echoes and watching who finds them is like an open scavenger hunt through the whole city. I discover corners I'd never seen.
